Thanksgiving weekend comes once a year and indulging is part of healthy man's diet. I'm getting pretty good at enjoying steamed vegetables for dinner but that doesn't mean I should deny my primal urges to gorge myself to exhaustion on such a fantastic annual holiday. The trick is enjoying myself on the holiday but not continuing to gorge myself in between the holidays.
The only thing that comes close to turkey gravy and stuffing is sausage gravy and biscuits. The main reasons why turkey gravy and stuffing trumps sausage gravy is because you're allowed to eat it while drinking wine, it's totally acceptable to have seconds, thirds and as many helpings as you can stand and you're almost expected to pass out while patting your engorged belly. Biscuits and gravy are usually set aside for breakfast and people frown upon you drinking wine before noon and my local diner doesn't like me passing out in exhaustion when I'm done eating.
Such a chance only comes around once a year and I'm going to take advantage of it. I highly recommend that you do too but come Monday, get back to a healthy diet. It's real easy to say oh I'll start losing weight on January 1, but why get further from your goal? Look, The first week in December is NOT a holiday so don't act like it is just so you can get fatter. That will only make it more difficult for you later.
I don't mean skip the traditional eggnog or all the sweet treats that people enjoy during the holidays but find what's important to you. Enjoy some sweets but when those aren't around eat healthy to make up for the extra fat and calories instead of throwing caution to the wind.
So enjoy the holidays but don't spend 6 weeks over eating. Instead, eat like normal people do maybe you and I won't be fat guys forever.
