Men's Halloween Healthy Diet TipsIt's Halloween and you know you're going to eat some candy and that's just not part of a man's healthy diet plan.  Even if you don't have kids you're going to a party and there's going to be goodies where ever you go so try to avoid the temptation by slamming your diet plans.

Sure, some people might suggest that you just avoid temptation on Halloween and skip the candy all together.  If you don't find yourself craving those sugary morsels of cavity inducing goodness then don't force yourself to swallow the sweets.  On the other hand, if you feel the desire it's probably better to give in now and show some restraint then deny yourself today and really go off the deep end later.

Men's Halloween Healthy Diet Tips

  • Buy any candy on your way home from work or as late as possible.  It's not going to be cheaper until a week after Halloween but you don't want those little chocolate bars sitting around the house for too long otherwise they're going to end up in your belly and you'll have to but more anyway.
  • Don't buy your favorite candy.  I've made that mistake before.  I don't enjoy dried coconut so candy with coconut in it is high on my list to have around the house.  I won't be craving it ever.
  • Eat a well balanced meal with plenty of protein and fiber before heading to any Halloween party or even sticking around the house to hand out candy.  This will keep you from getting hungry so you'll want the candy less and also helps keep insulin levels even as you're chomping the sugar.
  • Drink plenty of water before sitting down with a bag a of candy or have a piece of fruit first.  Both of these can help calm a hungry appetite and might help you eat a little less then you planned.
  • Exercise before you expose you're hungry man's appetite to any candy.  The exercise will help level insulin levels but make sure you eat some protein right after the workout.  It would be a shame to be starving and exposed to candy at the same time.
  • At the party look for the popcorn and apples.  You know the fiber and bulk will be better for you and maybe you can share an apple with some hot Eve.

Father's Halloween Healthy Diet Tips

My problem isn't that I'm going to a Halloween Party, it's that I'm taking a 4 year old snow princess trick-or-treating and we're going to have candy around the house.  If tradition stays on track I'll be doing this sweet filled trek with my buddy William, his two boys and a backpack full of beer :)

  • Get some healthy and balanced snacks in your kids before you go.  If your kids are like my adorable snow princess they can eat their weight in sugar.  Fill them up with fiber and protein and they're less likely to get that sugar rush.
  • Split the candy up when you get home.  Too many choices means to many end up in every one's belly.  have your kids pick out some of their favorites before they can eat any.  Then put the rest away.
  • Hide the sweets.  Everyone is more likely to forget about hat bag of sugar if it's out of site.  Stuff it away in the addict, the garage or way back in the closet.
  • Give the goods away.  After a few days having candy around the house is a bad thing.  Throwing it away is wasteful but donating to any kids organization means that some child that didn't get any candy might get something sugary sweet and a big smile for a bit.  I'm planning on dropping all of our candy in a toys for tots bin this year.  Think about a church, home for battered women or an orphanage.

The main thing is to have some candy and enjoy it without blowing your diet plan.  A few chocolate morsels aren't going to kill you and having a few now may mean not avoiding avoiding a sweet tooth the next time you're exposed to a tray of chocolate brownies.
